Brother Printer Guide: Laser, Inkjet and INKvestment Tank
Brother is a common choice for home offices and small businesses, particularly for monochrome laser printers. Its model names follow a fairly consistent pattern, which helps once you know how to read them. This page explains the main families, the official apps and general tips, and points you to our guides for detailed help.

Brother printer families
Brother HL series
Mostly print-only laser printers, in monochrome and color. Many HL models use a toner cartridge paired with a separate drum unit.
Brother MFC series
Multifunction printers that typically print, scan, copy and, on many models, fax. MFC models are available as both laser and inkjet printers.
Brother DCP series
Multifunction printers that typically print, scan and copy without fax, again offered in both laser and inkjet versions.
Brother INKvestment Tank
Inkjet models that use high-capacity ink cartridges feeding an internal ink tank, designed for lower-maintenance, higher-volume inkjet printing.
Official apps and utilities
Brother Mobile Connect
Brother’s newer official mobile app for setting up supported printers, printing, scanning and checking supply levels. Support depends on your model.
Brother iPrint&Scan
Brother’s official app for printing and scanning from mobile devices and computers, still used with many models.
A note on names
Which app a printer supports, and app names themselves, change over time. Install Brother software only from Brother’s official website or your device’s official app store.
Official Brother support, drivers and manuals
For drivers, firmware, manuals, warranty questions and hardware faults, go directly to the manufacturer: Brother Solutions Center . Brother’s official support site for drivers, manuals, FAQs and firmware. Select your country or region and model to see the right resources.

Notes for Brother owners
Read the model name. Brother model names start with the family (HL, MFC or DCP) followed by letters and numbers, usually printed on the front or top of the printer. Use the full name when looking for drivers, manuals or supplies.
Download drivers from official sources only. Avoid lookalike setup sites and any caller or pop-up that asks for remote access or payment. Built-in operating system drivers can handle basic printing for many models; Brother’s full driver package may be needed for scanning and advanced features.
Firmware updates. Brother publishes firmware updates for many models through its support site and, on some printers, through the control panel. Updates may affect how third-party supplies are recognized, so review the update notes first.
Toner, drum and maintenance menus. Many Brother lasers use a separate drum unit, and some require a drum counter reset after replacement; follow the manual for your model rather than generic instructions. Supply status, test prints and cleaning functions are usually found in the printer’s menu or its built-in web page. On inkjets, look for a Maintenance or Ink menu. See drum and toner cartridges for background.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between MFC and DCP?
Both are multifunction printers. In general, MFC models include fax capability while DCP models do not, but check your specific model’s specifications to be sure.
Why does my Brother laser printer still say “replace drum”?
On some models, the drum counter must be reset after installing a new drum unit. The steps differ by model and are in the manual or on Brother’s support site.
Is Super Laser Guide a Brother service provider?
No. We are an independent educational site, not affiliated with Brother. For warranty or service questions, use Brother’s official support site.
